You do these Canadian independent movies, you build up a name, and then you've gotta do shitty TV episodes just to pay your bills. It's hard to build your career when you keep on having to backtrack to do crappy things to pay for what you're doing. So it's kind of a weird situation.
~ Katharine Isabelle
I can't get this quote out of my mind, so I finally gave some thought as to why. On one hand, it's unwise to literally bite the hand that feeds you. At her level, if you want to earn your living money in your chosen field of acting, then the only way to make ends meet is TV income. So saying anything that could get back to a producer contemplating her for a guest role is very unwise. And given how many talented actresses must apply for every role, it doesn't take much for a producer to move on to the next headshot.
On the other hand, it's such a refreshing shot of honesty that you have to admire it. I'm sure most young actors feel this way but I've never seen any of them say it before.
It probably doesn't hurt that she's incredibly talented in that stand out quirky way and that show runners for at least two TV series (Stargate and Supernatural) have gone out of their way to talk about how much of a joy she is to work with. It'd be funny if those were the shows she was dissing, wouldn't it?
